The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has introduced a revised Standard Operating Procedure, featuring stipulations such as the prohibition of therapy or massage administered by individuals of the opposite sex at spas, salons, and beauty parlours within the district.
Siddharth Goswami, the Joint Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, commented on the new guidelines, stating, “We have implemented a new Standard Operating Procedure for spas, salons, beauty parlours, etc. As per the revised regulations, therapy or massage services are not permitted when provided by individuals of the opposite sex.”
To enhance transparency and discourage inappropriate practices, Goswami emphasized, “These establishments are not allowed to have exclusive chambers or rooms. The primary entrance must be transparent.”
The Joint Commissioner clarified that these regulations were established in response to a number of complaints received from citizens concerning questionable practices observed in certain spas and unisex parlours, practices that were deemed detrimental to civic society. The aim is to address these concerns and ensure the overall well-being and comfort of the community.
